Tuapeka Christian Centre

Sharing Christ with the community of Lawrence in Otago, and the greater Tuapeka district

We are a member of the Elim Pentecostal Church of NZ (Inc.)

A place of refreshing and safety

TCC facility

Our dream: To reach the lost; to shepherd the saved!

Our location: 40 Ross Place, Lawrence
(At the entrance to the Gabriel's Gully road)

Our services feature alive worship, a programme for the children during school term time, communion, and vibrant preaching. At the conclusion of every service there is an opportunity to receive  the ministry of prayer, laying on of hands, and anointing with oil. We love our church, and want it to be a place of healing and safety for anyone who walks through the door.

Our programs and ministries include:

  • Worship service every Sunday at 10:00 a.m. (10:30 a.m. winter season)
  • Children's Church program
  • Weekly prayer for the community
  • We administer the local food bank on behalf of the Lawrence combined churches
  • We provide a registered Budget Advisory service to the community
  • We support an active Bible in Schools program in the Lawrence Area School
  • We help to support a work in Papua New Guinea building a Bible school for the training of Christian children's workers
  • We help support the OMS work in Equador by contributing to the funding of a missionary couple

TCC service

Origionally known as the Lawrence Elim Church, the fellowship was founded over twenty years ago from the Dunedin City Elim Church, and occupies a strategic site in Lawrence's main street right at the entrance to Gabriel's Gully. Lawrence is a vibrant community founded in the turbulent days of New Zealand's first big gold rush in the 1860s, when the population of the township approached 11,500. Today it is stabilised at around 500, and lies on the main route from Dunedin to the Southern Lakes and skifields.

The 2000 year old cross

TCC cross

This cross stands at the front of the auditorium and is about five feet high. It is made from an ancient matai tree that was dug out of the ground in western Southland. Before being sawn and shaped into the cross by local craftsmen the timber was carefully dated. It was found to be approximately 2000 years old. That means it was a young tree when Christ walked the earth in Israel. It forms a real focus for our worship each Sunday.
